“In The Name Of The Son”
From today’s Times of London: Crowds waving Serbian and EU flags celebrated in Belgrade’s central square after the pro-European President beat off a tough challenge from an ultranationalist rival to keep the troubled Balkan country facing West rather than turning toward Moscow. Boris Tadic, president since 2004, benefited from a high turnout of 67% after a campaign that highlighted deep divisions in Serbia and was overshadowed by the impending declaration of independence from the province of Kosovo.
As the conflict continues in the former Yugoslavia, we are fortunate to have a wonderful 25 minute short film, In the Name of the Son, that explores it in very personal terms
After escaping execution, Tarik, a Bosnian prisoner of war, immigrates to the United States looking to leave his past behind. Years later, the man who spared his life shows up on Tarik’s doorstep asking for a favor: he wants to die.
Written and directed by Harun Mehmedinovic, a graduate of the UCLA School of Theatre Film and Television, as well as the American Film Institute, the film is edited by MSU graduate Tyler Earring.
See it Saturday February 16th at 3:15pm at The Gillioz as part of a triple feature of shorts, including “Rabia” and “Wasp”, a 2005 Academy Award winner for Short Narrative.
