The film ACADEMY OF DOOM (aka “Wrestling Women vs. The Brainiac”) has been accepted into the Kansas City Jubilee Film Festival. Shot in Columbia, Missouri, several St. Louisans worked on the film. See its page on the International Movie Data Base.
ACADEMY OF DOOM weaves a complex storyline involving mysterious characters and stolen brains. Shot in the psychotronic style of the no-budget Mexican “lucha” films of the early 1970s, this film tells the story of a series of bizarre murders at a famous wrestling women’s academy. Appearing in a featured role is the legendary luchador, Mil Mascaras, the world-renowned masked wrestler who has starred in some 20 Mexican wrestling films.
The film was directed by Chip Gubera, director of the international award-winning zombie musical “Song of the Dead” (www.songofthedead.com), who teaches film at UM – Columbia.
It will be showing at the Tivoli Cinema in Kansas City at 11pm on Friday, April 18th.
