Liberty, Mo.-based B&B Theatres has signed on to build an eight-screen movie theater in Ozark, city officials announced Wednesday.
Uptown Cinema 8 will be located at the intersection of Third and Church streets in the Ozark River District, formerly called the Finley River Neighborhood Development district. The district’s developer is PlazaCorp Realty Advisors Inc.
Construction will begin as soon as modifications to the area’s tax-increment financing district have been finalized and should be complete by December, according to a city news release. The city expects the theater will employ between 20 and 25 people.
The theater will use digital projection, allowing it to offer 3-D movies and show events such as live sporting games and concerts. Businesses can use the digital projection system for company meetings and presentations as well.
“It certainly is a home run for Ozark,” Mayor Don Watts said in the release. “This has been a priority for the residents and for me for a long time.”
B&B Theatres is the 29th largest theater circuit in North America, according to the release. The chain owns theaters in small communities – including Bolivar and Monett – in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
