The years of hard work have finally paid off for Nixa High School graduates Casey MacLaren and Cody Brown. The two will soon board a plane, fly to Utah and literally watch their dreams come true when they see themselves on the big screen during the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

“I’m super excited,” MacLaren said. “In my camera class, I see myself on TV, but it’s different to see it on the big screen. I’m really excited to see how it turned out.”

MacLaren and Brown were cast in the independent feature film “Winter’s Bone,” a critically-acclaimed fiction novel by Ozarks author Daniel Woodrell. Certain scenes of the movie were filmed in eastern Christian County near Oldfield and Chadwick last February.

“Winter’s Bone” is directed by Debra Granik and was one of 16 films—selected from 1,058 submissions—chosen for the U.S. dramatic competition, according to a release from Sundance film Festival.

The movie’s world premiere will be during the festival, Jan. 21 – 31 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Founded by Robert Redford in 1981, Sundance Institute is a not-for-profit organization that recognizes directors, screenwriters, producers, film composers, playwrights and theater artists.
