Commercial Street, for their new series The Opener. The restaurant was originally named Savor Bakehouse & Cafe but has been shortened at the recommendation of David Adjey.

Adjey is the star of the series, previously seen as a competitor on Iron Chef and star of Restaurant Makeover. In this real life one-hour documentary series, Chef Adjey helps newbie restaurateurs open their dream restaurant – often with their life’s savings on the line. The show premieres August 31 on Food Network Canada.

SBJ.net also notes that Adjey will be on hand for opening night, scheduled for September 6th. Savor is owned by Erik Kinkade and William Peak. Peak, the restaurant’s executive chef, was trained through the culinary arts program at Ozarks Technical Community College, has worked in the kitchens at Flame Steakhouse and Touch, and he most recently was head chef at Metropolitan Grill. Kinkade, who will serve as front of house and business manager, owned Springfield-based Rock and Water LLC, which created fountains, coral reef tanks and oversized lighting for hotels, convention centers, theme parks and zoos. He sold the company a year ago, and Savor is his first go-round in the restaurant business.

You can get an idea of what the show will be like with this clip by Frantic Films used to sell the show.

It’s still a few weeks away from opening but will get some national attention when it’s featured on The Food Network.

Their new restaurant, Savor, is already generating buzz from The Food Network. “I don’t know if it has actually sunk in,” Kinkade said. “I’m just the kind of person who does one day at a time and see how it goes.”

They will soon appear on “The Opener.” It’s a show about people who are first time restaurant owners. The restaurant is still under construction and a lot of work needs to be done before the camera crews show up.

If all goes as planned camera crews for “The Opener” will arrive in about two weeks. Peak and Kinkade started working on the building almost a year and a half ago and have put in quite a bit of money. They are hoping for a soft opening in August with a grand opening to follow.

A self-described “practitioner of daily life,” Granik, who won the director’s award at the 2004 Sundance for her film “Down to the Bone,” ultimately decided to shoot her naturalistic film on location in the Ozarks in February and March of last year. She and her crew scouted for two years, beginning in Howell, MO — near Woodrell’s house — but ultimately settled on Springfield, which was closer to the airport. She also choose to shoot in houses on real people’s property, exchanging new clothes for various families’ frayed coats and flannels, and observing as the close-knit community dealt with after-effects of the area’s drug culture and methamphetamine problem.

You can see a number of photos of the cast and crew from the film on the IFC.com website with their report on “Faces You Should Remember At The Winter’s Bone Premier” which is where the photo at the top comes from.

For background on the film and the many regional members of the cast and crew, check out our Production list.

You can see the film on Friday May 14th at the newly renovated Plaster Theater which completely upgraded film capabilities. Director/Screenwriter Debra Granik will be in attendance as well as many of the local cast. Join us, enjoy the film and the panel discussions associated with the film and support Meth Recovery and Film Production in the Ozarks!

It is the goal of this competition to help local filmmakers and musicians increase their visibility in a world market and provide a creative outlet for the tremendous amount of talent that exists right in our own “backyard”.

Each team can either bring their own song for which they have procured the rights for or the will be issued a song from our artist pool.

At approximately 7:30 PM the competition will begin and filmmakers will be released to begin creating their respective music videos. The teams will be given 7 days in which to do this.

The following Saturday night all videos will be turned in at an undisclosed location. 2 screenings of ALL the Music Videos turned in will take place at The Moxie Cinema located in downtown Springfield MO. During the screenings all eligible teams will be given a detailed ballot to rate each video. Each team gets one ballot and will not be permitted to judge their own video.
