Registration for people who want to be extras in the feature film “Winter’s Bone” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Forsyth High School gymnasium, 178 Panther Drive in Forsyth.

Producers are seeking adults and school-aged children for the project.

“We are also interested in babies around 8 months old,” said location casting director Heather Laird. “Children appearing in films and television are usually played by two individuals.

“Identical twins are great, but they are hard to come by. We will likely end us selecting two similar-looking infants.”

The babies will work about a week on the film. Most of the rest of the extras will work one day.

Extras are generally paid $50 to $100 per day, Laird said.

“Winter’s Bone” is based on the novel of the same name by West Plains native Daniel Woodrell. Principal photography will begin in February in the Forsyth area for about four weeks.

SPRINGFIELD, MO (October 1, 2008) – Springfield’s first MOTION MEDIA EXPO will be held at the Keyes Art Gallery, 229 South Market Avenue, Friday, October 10th, 8:00 to 11:00 PM.

This Motion Media Expo has been organized for producers, directors, filmmakers, composers, writers, designers, talent and a host of supporting services to the film industry. Green Glass Productions’ producer Jonna Volz-Howes has purposed to create a networking and sales environment for independent and production businesses in the region by putting them all in the same room. “Here they can sell themselves as employees or employers of productions companies by showcasing their portfolios and skills,” says Howes. “We want to bring together a diverse group of people in an artistic and comfortable environment and entertain them with music and a fashion show, offering food and beverages as well.”

Registration is required for Businesses and Individuals who desire to be in the MFAS’ film Directory and to be showcased by displaying their marketing tools via print and digital formats at the Expo. Details and costs for registration can be seen at www.greenglassproductions.net. Deadline for business entries is October 6, 2008. For non-registrants, there will be a cover charge of $10 at the door.

Steve Olson, president of the Missouri Film Alliance Springfield, says, “We are excited to be working with Jonna Howes and Green Glass Productions in their efforts to bring this Motion Media Expo to Springfield. We have witnessed significant growth over the last four years in the community of filmmakers and supporting organizations in the Southwest Missouri region. The Expo will play an important role in developing a comprehensive film directory of the talent and services in our community. And, the directory is a critical marketing tool for MFAS as we continue to promote the benefits of filming in Southwest Missouri.” The MFAS office will manage the ongoing maintenance of the Directory. October marks the fourth anniversary of the founding of MFAS.

Music talent scheduled to perform during the evening include Cornbelt Chorus, Rhett Roberson, Lyal Strickland, and Jeremy Larson.

A Fashion Show will also be presented by local designers and wardrobiers Cross Rags, Jacqueline’s, Vintage Vice, and more.

Green Glass Productions, founded in 2008 by Jonna Volz-Howes, is registered with the State of Missouri, business address is PO Box 905, Springfield MO 65801. Fax number is 417-865-3191.

The Motion Media Expo is a cooperative event with sponsorship from MFAS and Stonegate Creative Group.

Friends, writers, gather ‘round…

We’re still gathering scenes from different writers to put together into a vignette movie of Springfield, Missouri. The working title is: “SPRINGFIELD 417— Periods of Revelation.”

We’re looking to do several 5 to 7 minute shorts that can be filmed somewhere in Springfield, Missouri, and that deal with compelling storylines. (If you’ve seen the movie “Paris, Je T’aime” it will be a similar production in terms of vignetted storylines.) We want to keep the movie rating at PG or PG-13 so that family viewing will be encouraged.

Although the film lengths are around 5-7 minutes, there’s a possibility of going up to 10 minutes if it’s a really engaging storyline. The subtitle, “Periods of Revelations” is the theme of the movie. Something should be revealed that changes the protagonist’s life, direction or maybe it changes the movie’s direction.

An example would be:
“A young woman, disenchanted with her life, is persuaded by a husband and wife to let the husband
read her future with Tarot cards. The reading reveals an untimely death in 7 days! The young woman at first is devastated, but ends up cramming as much “living” into her life as she can, thus trying to live to the fullest.

After the allotted time has passed and the woman is still alive and kicking, she finds out that the Tarot card reader has died. The twist to the story is that we find out the husband always reads his fortune
first before giving a reading for someone else.” -END-

Storylines may need to be adjusted to accommodate sponsorship needs, so please be open to that. We’re not interested in the horror genre for this piece. Blood, guts, and gore will have to wait.

My goal is to build a local, interacting community of movie-makers and artists (including musicians, writers, dancers, etc.) that will work together to help bolster each other in their various projects. Hopefully this project will be a catalyst towards that end.

Our deadline for storylines will be:
One paragraph synopsis — September 1, 2008- Labor Day
Finished scripts ———– November 13, 2008

The New York Reality TV School, which offers a three-hour course for $139, opened its doors last month to a variety of aspiring wannabes: contestants in reality shows who need coaching, actors wanting to make a career move, mere amateurs, and anyone in between. Oh blessed New York, which harbors such preposterous phenomena still.

Mr. Galinsky launched the evening with “The 7 Commandments of Reality TV.” Commandment No. 2 requires that “Thou Shall Never Say ‘I Am an Actor’” and commandment No. 6 demands that “Thou Shall Say ‘Yes’ as Often as Possible.” And the eighth “Bonus” commandment says “Thou Shall Show Confidence Not Cockiness.”

Actors Union Approves Pact With Producers
By LAUREN A.E. SCHUKER, July 9, 2008; Page B8
Members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists approved their new contract with a 62.4% majority. In recent weeks, the Aftra vote became something of a referendum on the actors’ desire to continue negotiating for a better contract with the studios, as the two unions share about 44,000 members. SAG, currently embroiled in difficult talks with Hollywood studios, campaigned vigorously against the new Aftra deal as a means of demonstrating that its members are willing to aggressively pursue better terms in their own contract — even on the heels of a crippling 100-day strike by screenwriters last winter.

Studios Weigh Options Amid Strike Uncertainty
By LAUREN A.E. SCHUKER and PETER SANDERS, July 10, 2008; Page B3
In the midst of unresolved contract negotiations with the Screen Actors Guild, Hollywood studios are weighing whether to declare an impasse and, in some cases, are preparing to push ahead with planned projects despite uncertainty over a possible strike.

The steps seem to indicate film and TV producers believe the prospects of a strike by the Screen Actors Guild have been diminished by recent events. On Tuesday, members of another actors’ union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, ratified its contract with the studios, leaving SAG as the only major Hollywood union without a contract.

SAG will meet with the studios on Thursday afternoon to discuss a final offer on the table, but SAG leadership has said it is still unhappy with that deal. SAG leadership has said the vote on the Aftra contract, which was ratified by 62.4% of the members who voted, shows a significant group of actors are not satisfied with that deal, and that they will continue to fight for better terms.
Hollywood Producers Say SAG Rejects Contract Offer
Associated Press, July 11, 2008
The two sides met privately for more than five hours before the AMPTP released a statement saying the guild was “unreasonably” seeking more than other unions. The session came as actors continue to work under a contract that expired last month.

The studios made their final offer last week, saying it provided $250 million in additional compensation over three years. The studios said they will not make any pay increases retroactive to July 1 if the deal is not ratified by Aug. 15.

SAG, the largest and most powerful actors union, represents 120,000 actors in movies, TV and other media. It is seeking greater compensation for DVDs, something neither writers, directors nor a smaller actors union could secure in negotiations.
