Labor Laws
Minors – Child Labor:
Any person under 16 years of age working as a performer in the entertainment industry must secure an entertainment work permit from the Missouri Division of Labor Standards. State law sets forth requirements regarding proof of age, written consent of legal guardians, meal and break times, amount of hours worked per day or week, and productions involving dangerous situations. For a detailed account of Missouri’s Child Labor Law, please contact the Division of Labor Standards at (573) 751-3403, or go to www.dolir.mo.gov/ls/childlabor.
Union Labor:
Missouri is not a right-to-work state. Some unions are represented in Missouri and should be contacted if you are seeking any production services involving the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States and Canada. A good person to contact with questions concerning film related unions in Missouri is Gary Hansen, the IATSE 493 representative in St. Louis.
You will also want to contact the Screen Actors Guild district office in Chicago if you are planning to use any SAG actors.
