Hello my name is Brian Rowe and I’m running for the Board. I have had a long love affair with both the visual and audio medias for quite some time. It started back in middle school when a new friend invited me to help set up the studio for the Middle school’s daily news cast. I have not stopped trying to help out ever since.

For the last 15-16 years I have been a part of the medias from the smallest level to the highest levels. From helping in other fellow filmmakers films to helping local radio talent.

I have been actively pursuing my Passion for the Media Arts for the last 3 years. The last 3 years I have been building upon the basics of film making by expanding my social networking and helping out others so as I might learn some valuable lessons that others around me have learned. Before that, I have spent time enjoying the medias and actively writing scripts. I have an over active imagination and a Passion for stories which is why I probably have had so much fun writing my scripts.

Recently I have hurled myself into the Film Festivals. My first bout was entering a contest to create an original show for Fox and MySpace. I ranked in the top 100 out of over 7000 entries. My second was the local festival the SATO 48. Our lead actress earned a beat actress nom. Last year I stepped out of my comfort zone and produced a black & white silent film which earned my team three nominations. Audience Fav, Best Screenplay, and Best Film which was ranked in the top 5. At that point I new I really wanted to tell stories.

I don’t believe in limiting anyone’s pursuits in the Film Arts and that everyone who has a real desire to see their Passion come to life on the screen should be afforded the opportunity. It is with this approach I make my platform. I will do everything I can that is within my abilities to help grow and spread the love of film by assisting in anyway in making filmmaking in the Ozarks easier and more obtainable. There is much talent in and around Missouri and I wish to promote that as much as humanly possible.

Sincerely,
Brian.

Borg

Owner/Director – Phormation Media Group, LLC

Membership level: Producer (Top level)

Member since: January 2011

Film/TV Experience:

Jeremy has filled various roles for shows airing on major TV networks including: The Travel Channel, TLC, SyFy, and TruTV. He is currently in pre-production as Co-Producer and Director of Photography on a show set to air on local daytime TV.

Borg recently worked as a one-man production crew, shooting camera and running audio on the upcoming feature documentary by director Debra Granik (Winter’s Bone, 2010). The film is tentatively titled Life at Ease, and is expected to be released in 2012.

Jeremy founded Phormation Media Group in the summer of 2011, shortly before bringing the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour to The Gillioz Theater in September. Having shown in over 400 cities around the world, it was the first time the festival had ever been brought to Springfield, Missouri. The inaugural showing was such a success that Borg and Phormation Media Group have decided to make it an annual event. Look for it again in September 2012.

“I’m proud to say that I’m a Springfield native, and that I’ve been fortunate enough to call this burgeoning city home for nearly my entire life.

I care about our community, and I have a lot invested in it. When my company hosted the film festival last fall, I chose a local non-profit beneficiary because I believe in giving back. My involvement in the Missouri Film Alliance of Springfield is also representative of that belief. Last year I attended every MFAS event after becoming a member, and I think I was probably the most active non-Board member. I filled-in for the President on many occasions, I hosted events, and I presented awards on behalf of the MFAS.

I believe that this organization has great potential, and that it can be a driving force for economic development and for the promotion of film and the moving image arts in our region.

Together, we make up the Missouri Film Alliance of Springfield, and together we can make Springfield a leading film community.”

My name is Christopher Kaspar and I eat visual for breakfast. After graduating from Texas A&M University with a marketing degree, I recently put my plans to move to LA on hold in order to work on a MA degree in Studio Art in Theory at Drury University here in Springfield. I was delighted to find a job with a102 studios and uncover the hidden film world here in town. In my most vivid dreams of the future, I hope to be a director of films that have purpose and change people’s lives in powerful ways. Ultimately, I want to help people not just look at movies, but into them.

I want to invest in the MFAS because I have tasted the magic that can be created when groups of talented people work together toward a common goal. There is momentum, energy and potential here. There is youth and there is experience. There are learners and the learned. There is opportunity. I am willing to work hard to connect the MFAS and then increase its exposure.

Keith Moncrief

Producer, Actor

Co-Founder & Board Member of The Missouri Film Alliance of Springfield

Who am I

My earliest memories are of my twin brother, my family & Television. I’m old enough to remember when television was something that families gathered around and watched together. Though my playpen I could see the images that matched the voices which captured the attention of adults around me.

As I grew, it became a doorway to many things. Education. I could watch Sesame Street or any number of programs from different countries. Sports. Weekends enjoying the “thrill of victory & the agony of defeat.” but it was the reruns. Syndicated programs and films that would lead me from my first steps to the founding of this organization.

Everything I learned about television & films was because of syndication. Cheap entertainment that gave me access to ideas from writers, directors and actors decades older than myself. By the time I was four (4) I knew who Sherwood Schwartz, Quinn/ Martin, Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, Aaron Spelling, Rod Serling & Gene Roddenberry were. (My parents would say that they raised me.)

Over time, and a distance of 761 miles, I taught myself about film & television. Read any books I could get my hands on until the day I met people who gave me an opportunity to work on an independent film for a cable network and the rest as they say is history. (Well mine at least.)

My Vision

The future of the Missouri Film Alliance is one that exists in the realities of the current fiscal & political challenges of the Show Me State. It is very important that the Board & in particular, the President, be ready to meet these challenges in a way that not only recognizes but also acts on these matters, while maintaining the mission statement that has guided us since the beginning.

We have and we will continue to be a very creative entity but to not give equal attention to our duty as an organization in Southwest Missouri allows us to not only be marginalized but ignored by the very city whose name is a part of this organization.

We have to be more than just a specialized group in this community.

We must become part of this community.

A part that is a vibrant, unique contributing organization for whom local participation is in keeping with the incredible legacy of those whose creative endeavors not only enhanced the City of Springfield but the State of Missouri as well.

Think about it. A man born & raised in St. Joseph, MO moves to Springfield with a dream to showcase a unique facet of this area. He builds a radio station that not only allows him to achieve his dream but to this day that station is a leader in this community.

Or how about a young struggling actor, born & raised in Joplin, MO. Makes his way to the east coast where he meets and impresses a legendary actress, herself born & raised in St. Louis, MO, who arranges an interview that allows him to be cast in the pilot of not only one of the most celebrated series but the fifth longest running dramatic program in the history of television.

These are the kind of people that the MFAS was formed to help.

We are the beneficiaries of those whose saw things differently. Those who chose the road less traveled. Those who used that sacred creative, spark to not only pave the way but in doing so, allowed us and others, to see how and why we must have a Missouri Film Alliance of Springfield.

As President, I will commit myself to this path and with your guidance, we will chart a course that will illuminate Springfield & enhance the State of Missouri.

This one room schoolhouse was established in (insert year here). Located in a rural area on a country road in Marionville, MO, the facility is now employed as a community center. The original outhouses are still standing. Original desks, benches, chairs and black board are still in the building along with added removable tables and seating to accommodate community meetings. A kitchen now stands where the library once was, and a modern restroom is located indoors. A ramp was added to make the facility handicap accessible. A playground is located in the back that includes the original merry-go-round from the days when the building was still used as a school. A basement serves as a shelter during severe weather.

Gailey’s is a well-loved breakfast bar in downtown Springfield. Housed in the historic Seville Hotel, this drugstore café has bar stools lining the diner counter like an old soda shop, and additional booth and table seating. With that small 50s diner feel and the friendly staff and owner to go with it, Gailey’s Breakfast Café can fill the shoes of anything from a period piece to the reoccurring coffee shop in a sitcom.

This thrift store is conveniently located off of two major roads; Battlefield, and Kansas Expressway on the southeast side of Springfield. Spacious and well lit, the location provides several different options for shots and set design possibilities. The owner, Joe Nelson, is extremely approachable and supportive of the store being featured in films. Once a Hank’s Fine Furniture store, this spacious location is now occupied by a tremendously large thrift store with rear garage access and parking on two sides.
